In 2024, Homebox inaugurated several new facilities in France, including in Le Puy-en-Velay and Cherbourg (January), Lisieux (February), Morsbach (March), Corte (May), Ajaccio and Paris-République (June), and Lyon-Craponne (November). Since 2023, the network has established a total of 20 new sites across France. "This growth has also been accompanied by the modernization and expansion of existing centers, ensuring optimal service quality for all customers," the brand emphasized in a statement.
Established in 1996, Homebox has become the leader in the French self-storage market, notably through its franchise model adopted in 2006. As of early 2025, the network claims "185 centers across Europe, including 145 in France, representing a total of 600,000 m² of storage space." The company highlights that franchising has "played a key role" in its expansion since 2023, "with over 60 franchised centers enabling Homebox to effectively meet strong local demand and extend its national presence." Outside France, Homebox is also active in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, and Andorra.
A subsidiary of Groupe Rousselet (which also operates the Ada car rental brand via franchise and owns G7 taxis), Homebox reported a "record network turnover of over €100 million in 2024, marking 7.5% growth compared to 2023." In France, 70% of the network’s customers are private individuals, while the remainder are professionals (such as tradespeople and entrepreneurs) or major corporate accounts. In 2024, Homebox achieved a record €17.5 million turnover with its corporate clients.
Homebox has also strengthened its footprint in Europe with strategic openings, notably in Barcelona and Valencia (Spain) and Essen (Germany). The brand, present in Germany since 2015, Spain since 2017, and Portugal since 2019, is now one of the major players in European self-storage. In Germany alone, Homebox aims to open about ten new sites by 2030.
By the end of 2025, Homebox plans to inaugurate 15 new centers in France and Europe, combining company-owned and franchised developments. A new location is already scheduled to open in Nancy in June 2025, ensuring coverage of all major French cities. Typically located on the outskirts, Homebox centers are highly visible from main roads, range from 500 to 7,000 m², and offer flexible storage units from 1 to 50 m², accessible 24/7.
To expand its franchise network, Homebox is primarily seeking "owners of buildings over 1,000 m² interested in joining the adventure" or "independent self-storage operators" wishing to join the brand. If self-storage is the main activity, a franchisee should plan for about 1,500 m² of storage units. For a secondary activity, 500 m² may suffice. Excluding building costs, fitting out a Homebox center represents an investment of approximately €220 per m².
